Description

Argyrosomus regius reaches 2.3 m and 100 kg. Giant Sciaenidae (Sciaenidae) Mediterranean and East temperate Atlantic. Fusiform silver body with golden reflections, pale lateral line, large mouth. Capable of emitting low audible sounds (drumming) characteristic of Sciaenidae. Lives from 15 to 300 m in coastal schools or solitary, predator of small pelagics. Highly sought sport fishing trophy (sportfish, up to 30 kg trophy). Important developing aquaculture. Iconic wide-angle photo subject of large Med estuarine and lagoon schools.
