Description

Aetobatus ocellatus reaches 3.3 m across. Sister species of A. narinari in the Caribbean, recently split for its Indo-Pacific distribution. Disc-shaped blue-black body dotted with white circular spots, beak-like snout. Glides gracefully in midwater, often in small groups. Feeds on shelled invertebrates. Indo-Pacific population declining, IUCN Vulnerable. Venomous barb at tail base, respect distance.
