Description

Pachycerianthus multiplicatus reaches 30 cm tentacle spread. Long brown mucoid tube buried in mud or sand. Two crowns of tentacles: outer long thin blue, purple or green, inner short brown. Lives from 10 to 200 m on soft bottoms of Scotland, Ireland, Norway. Emblematic fjord species. Instant retraction into tube when touched. Permanent tube may exceed one meter in sediment. Night photography favored.
