Description

Odontodactylus brevirostris reaches 18 cm. Small mantis shrimp (Stomatopoda) from Indo-Pacific coral reefs. Blue-violet to emerald-green body, multicolored eyes (red, blue, green). Benthic carnivore, feeds on small shrimp and crustaceans. Digs in sand and reef crevices by day. Exceptional visual raptor. Territorial social structure. Nocturnal, hides in galleries. Minimally threatened = LC. Subject of neurovision research.
