Description

Mullus barbatus reaches 30 cm. Very close to M. surmuletus but distinguishable by its more rounded forehead, slightly stockier body and the absence of marked yellow longitudinal stripes. Uniform pink color with silvery reflections. Prefers sandy-muddy bottoms over rocky ones, from 5 to 300 m. Also highly valued in commercial fisheries, dominant on the market.
