Description

Macrourus berglax reaches 1.1 m. Grenadier (Macrouridae) North boreal-arctic Atlantic with elongated tadpole-like body with armored head with bony plates, giant black eyes adapted to abyssal darkness, long tapered pointed tail (characteristic of Macrouridae, hence grenadier). Lives from 100 to 1300 m on deep muddy bottoms of Northeast and Northwest Atlantic, Greenland. Deep industrial commercial fishery. Extremely rare wide-angle photo subject, observable mainly with scientific ROVs.
