Primitive large shark (180-480 cm) dark grey with six gill slits (unique feature). Very deep habitat (100-2500 m) Atlantic, Pacific, Mediterranean, coastal waters. Nocturnal, vertical migrator. Predator of varied prey. Conservation: vulnerable, slow growth. Diving: exceptional, extreme depths.
