Description

Eriphia verrucosa, the warty crab, reaches 10 cm. Reddish carapace with characteristic tubercles, large asymmetric claws with black tips. Nocturnal, it spends the day under rocks and emerges at night to hunt mollusks and small fish. Its powerful claws can crush a mussel shell. Edible and valued along southern coasts.
