Dunckerocampus dactyliophorus reaches 19 cm. Extremely elongated body striped alternately with fine vivid-red and white bands, red fan-shaped tail edged in black with a central yellow spot. Always lives in faithful pairs under overhangs or in small coral caves Indo-Pacific between 1 and 56 m. Cleaning behavior: removes parasites from various fish. Males brood eggs in a ventral pouch like all Syngnathidae.
