Description

Chloeia viridis reaches 10 cm. Small Amphinomid polychaete (Amphinomidae) Indo-Pacific and Atlantic with oval body short antennae, white fan bristles very visible on sides, distinctive dorsal pattern of olive-green to brown-green spots arranged in rows forming drawing evoking mask or floral pattern. Lives from 1 to 30 m on sandy and muddy bottoms near reefs, often partially buried. Nocturnal. Urticating bristles producing intense pain and redness, never touch. Sought-after night dive photo subject for graphic appearance, caution mandatory.
