Description

Aulostomus strigosus reaches 75 cm. Trumpetfish with extremely elongated compressed body, tubular snout, numerous small spines on lateral line. Variable coloration: brown, yellow, orange allowing camouflage. Often observed hunting vertically head-down hidden along a gorgonian or behind other fish whose behavior it mimics to approach prey. Lives from 5 to 50 m on rocks and seagrass of subtropical East Atlantic (Macaronesia, Cape Verde, Senegal). Photographable for its behavior.
