Description

Antedon bifida reaches 20 cm arms. Crinoid (Echinodermata, feather star) temperate East Atlantic from Norway to Morocco, western Mediterranean. Small central body with 10 fringed pink-white to light beige arms in elegant fan. Lives from 5 to 200 m on kelp (Laminaria), gorgonians and rocky drop-offs of temperate Atlantic. Nocturnal suspensivore filter feeder. More discreet color than Mediterranean A. mediterranea. Classic macro photo subject of Brittany, UK, Norway dives. Close cousin of A. mediterranea.
