Description

Aiptasia mutabilis reaches 10 cm. Anemone with greenish-brown oral disc and long translucent thin tentacles with paler tips. Contains symbiotic zooxanthellae. Readily colonizes rocks, jetties, harbors and wrecks in the Mediterranean from 1 to 40 m. Highly reproductive (fragmentation + larvae), can form dense populations. Its tropical cousin (A. pallida) is a notorious aquarium-trade invasive.
